• Account Information: Phone number (required for authentication), name, birthday, and profile photo (optional)
• Reminders: Content of reminders you create, including text, scheduling information, and any images or GIFs
• Voice Input: When you use voice to create reminders, speech is transcribed locally on your device using iOS speech recognition. Only the transcribed text is sent to our servers for parsing into reminder details.
• Contacts: If you grant permission, we access your contacts to help you share to-dos with friends and family
• Village Chat Messages: When you use Village Chat (our SMS service), we collect the content of your text messages, your phone number, and conversation history to process your requests and create reminders on your behalf.

Information We Collect Automatically

• Usage Data: How you interact with the app, features you use, and reminder completion patterns
• Device Information: Device type, operating system version, unique device identifiers, and push notification tokens
• Log Data: App crashes, system activity, and error reports

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide and maintain the Village service
• Authenticate your account via SMS verification
• Send you reminder notifications
• Enable sharing of reminders with your chosen contacts
• Generate AI-powered images for reminders
• Improve and personalize your experience

3. Information Sharing

We share your information only in these circumstances:

• With Your Consent: When you explicitly choose a visibility setting for your reminders
• With Other Users: Based on the visibility level you choose:
  • Private: Only visible to people you explicitly add as assignees or watchers
  • Friends: Visible to your Village friends
  • Public: Visible to all Village users
• Service Providers: Third-party services that help us operate (Supabase for data storage, Twilio for SMS)
• Legal Requirements: When required by law or to protect rights and safety

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Supabase: Database and authentication services (data storage, real-time syncing)
• Twilio: SMS verification and notifications
• GIPHY: GIF search and selection for reminder customization
• Google Gemini: AI processing for Village Chat (natural language understanding and image generation from text messages)
• Firebase Cloud Messaging: Push notification delivery
• Netlify: Website hosting

Each service has its own privacy policy governing the use of your information. We carefully vet all third-party providers to ensure they meet our privacy and security standards.

5. Village Chat & SMS Communications

When you provide your phone number and consent to SMS communications, we use Twilio to send:

• Verification codes: One-time passcodes for account authentication and login
• Reminder notifications: Due reminders, early warnings, and daily summaries
• Reminder invitations: Notifications when someone invites you to a reminder

When you invite friends to reminders, we may send SMS invitations to phone numbers you provide. These messages are sent only at your explicit request through the app interface.

Village Chat

Village Chat is our conversational SMS service available at (866) 883-6905. By texting this number, you opt in to Village Chat and acknowledge the following:

• AI Processing: Your messages are processed by Google Gemini (AI) to parse your intent and create reminders. Message content is sent to Google's servers for natural language processing.
• Conversation History: We retain conversation context for 30-minute session windows to support multi-turn conversations. After the session expires, conversation state is cleared.
• SMS Logs: We retain SMS message logs for service quality, debugging, and abuse prevention.
• Image Generation: When you request images, they are generated using AI models (Google Gemini). Generated images may be stored and associated with your reminders.
• Toll-Free: Village Chat uses a toll-free number. Village does not charge for messages. Standard carrier message and data rates may apply.

Opt-out: Reply STOP to any SMS message to stop receiving SMS from Village. Reply START to re-subscribe. Reply HELP for assistance. Message frequency varies. Standard message and data rates may apply.

We do not: Sell phone numbers, use phone numbers for marketing purposes, or share phone numbers with third parties except as necessary to deliver SMS messages through Twilio.

6. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using industry-standard encryption:

• All data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS
• Sensitive data is encrypted at rest in our databases
• We use Supabase's secure infrastructure for data storage
• Access to personal data is restricted to authorized personnel only
• We implement regular security audits and updates

7. Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

• Access: Request a copy of your personal data
• Update: Correct inaccurate information through the app
• Delete: Request deletion of your account and associated data
• Control Notifications: Manage push notifications through device settings
• Revoke Permissions: Remove contact access through device settings
• Data Portability: Export your reminders data

8. Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. When you delete your account:

• Personal data is removed within 30 days
• Anonymized data may be retained for analytics (cannot be linked back to you)
• Some data may be retained longer where required by law

9. Children's Privacy

Village is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it immediately.

10. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and maintained on servers located outside your country. By using Village, you consent to such transfers. We ensure that all international transfers comply with applicable data protection laws.

11. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

• Right to know what personal information is collected, used, shared, or sold
• Right to delete personal information
• Right to opt-out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell data)
